Earnhardt Sr. dies after last-lap crash

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Dale Earnhardt, one of the greatest stars in auto racing history, died Sunday from injuries in a last-lap crash at the Daytona 500.The seven-time Winston Cup champion had to be cut out of his car after slamming into the wall on the final turn of the race while fighting for position. New Hampshire crash claims Irwin's life
"We are deeply saddened at today's passing of Kenny Irwin," NASCAR president Bill France said. "On behalf of all of us at NASCAR and the entire NASCAR community, our deepest sympathies, all our thoughts and prayers are with Kenny's family, friends and everyone at Team SABCO. Kenny was a fine competitor and will be missed very much by the entire NASCAR community."
Adam Petty dies in crash during practice
