This web site is devoted to alternative energy, including solar, wind, water, internal combustion, efficient lighting and energy conservation.  Our focus is towards the do it yourselfer and the experimenter, though we hope the information here is helpful to anyone with an interest in remote power systems.  We'll have information about our own experiments and experiences--successes and failures alike.  Please visit our "about us" page for further information about who we are and what we do!  Browse this web site to find our discussion board, and an interesting line of products for folks who make their electricity at home. http://www.otherpower.com/

Some Of My Adventures With Locating, Developing And Powering A Heritage Farm

In the seventies the back to the land movement coaxed many people to seek out land upon which to start such a lifestyle. The concept that motivated most of the land seekers was to feel healthy naturally and independent of a controlling economic or political system. Being 30 years old and a farm boy from Manitoba, Canada I was different from most in the movement in that I actually had some experience with farming and being on the land. Many of the city people involved new very little about what the land required from them in order for it to provide for them. http://www.broeckx.org/main.php3?id=62

Welcome to Reality Sculptors!

There are many problems and challenges facing us in the world today. And many more awaiting us in the future. Unfortunately, many of the ones we face right now are holdovers from the past. These old problems are keeping us bogged down, and preventing us from making advances as fast as we could be. http://reality.sculptors.com/what-sort.html

As a Design Scientist, I try to analyze issues that are current problems, step outside of their framework to see things from a larger perspective, and then try to integrate ideas from other areas in order to solve the problem at hand.

Some of my primary interests are in finding solutions to homelessness, hunger, poverty, traffic congestion, and poor education. I'm also interested in building floating cities on the oceans, as a way of reducing the perception that earth is overcrowded. (It isn't really overcrowded, BTW, but the people living in the cities all seem to think so, so I figured perhaps we need to offer them some alternatives to the crowded conditions they live in, now. :-) )

Rebuild America is committed to helping communities be stronger, cleaner, and more environmentally and economically sound through smarter energy use. The program starts with building renovation-and expands from there-to include renewable energy, efficient new building design, energy education, and other innovative energy and resource conservation measures. Ultimately, communities benefit from revitalized neighborhoods and main streets, improved school facilities, better low-income housing, and the positive economic impact brought by keeping local dollars at home. For more information about the Rebuild America Program, visit http://www.rebuild.org.

Ben Wiens portraitHello, my name is Ben Wiens and I am an applied energy scientist. The goal in my Infosite is to supply simplified information about energy. This does not mean that advanced topics are not covered. Theoretical topics such as Relativity, Superstring theories, force fields, wavicles, virtual particles, laws of energy, forms of energy, carnot's law, and entropy are covered. Practical technologies such as fuel cells, gas turbines, chemical-looping, chemical recuperation, combined cycles, tidal power, solar cells, cogeneration are also analyzed in detail. Related issues such as transportation technologies, environmental concerns and even the politics of energy are examined. I have rated the articles with level numbers such as Year 12 which indicate the minimum years of formal science education that are generally required to reasonably understand them. Many modern scientific developments involve energy concepts from biology, chemistry and physics. It is beneficial to group the basic concepts of energy from the different areas of science together. Such a common study of energy is called energy science. All of the individual files on this website are listed in this webpage or sitemap and can be viewed by clicking on the file title. http://www.veggievan.org - It's called "The Veggie Van" and it's fueled with used vegetable oil from fast food restaurants.  During the summers of 1997 and 1998, the Veggie Van took America by storm, logging over 25,000 miles on biodiesel fuel and appearing on the Today Show, Dateline, and CNN. Author and photographer Joshua Tickell drove the Veggie Van across the US and wrote the definitive book on using vegetable oil as an alternative fuel. Public Relations expert Kaia Roman coordinated press and media activities for the Veggie Van and edited the first and second editions of From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank.

Established in 1980, the Alternative Technology Association (ATA) is a non-profit community group that aims to use and promote environmentally friendly technology.
We are interested in renewable energy sources such as the sun, wind and water; building with natural materials and conserving energy.
The ATA has around one thousand members across Australia, conducts regular meetings, workshops and courses, and produces a range of educational publications.

If your interest is OFF-GRID LIVING, alternative energy, renewable energy, solar,
photovoltaic, and/or homesteading: THIS IS THE SITE FOR YOU !

"Off-Griders" are producing energy as an alternative to being dependent on a major utility company.
Solar, wind, and hybrid generation are the primary ways of being self-sufficient. Off-grid living is a
unique lifestyle; sometimes a balance between doing without, yet having so much. Hope you enjoy !

One of the penalties of an ecological education is that one lives alone in a world of wounds. Much of the damage inflicted on land is quite invisible to laymen. An ecologist must either harden his shell and make believe that the consequences of science are none of his business, or he must be the doctor who sees the marks of death in a community that believes itself well and does not want to be told otherwise. Welcome to earthDot, the online interactive magazine on environmental issues that affect everything under the sun, and then some! The way this site works is we all. . . this means you, too. . . find articles posted anywhere on the 'Net (or published elsewhere, with permission from the author, or write an original piece yourself) and submit the story with your take on it and a URL (Internet address) where we can go to read it. Then everyone who does can come back here and comment on it, add new information and stories, argue or agree with you, share resources.

I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait 'til oil and coal run out before we tackle that.

Think about it…
Freedom is something you assume. Then you wait for someone to try to take it away from you. The degree to which you resist is the degree to which you are free.

"The Foundation is not in the business of changing laws, or changing attitudes, it is about providing a voice for those who already know that civilisation has taken a wrong turn. It is for those who want to change their lifestyles but either cannot see a way out, or do not have the financial or skill resources to make the change on their own."
