VeggieFiltration

From GreenTrust, the free encyclopedia.

Our DIY Vegetable Oil Filtration System for the VeggieGen consists of a 55 gallon steel drum. The raw waste veggie oil, usually obtained in 4.3 gallon plastic jugs, is prefiltered through fine screen wire and nylon knee-high's in a double PVC filter housing, before draining into the filtration drum.

This drum has a bushing welded in to accept a screw-in electric water heater element. These elements cost under $10 at a hardware store, and range from 2kw to 5kw at 240 vac. We are starting with a 2kw element to see how hot, and how fast, the system works. As the temperature rises, a pump will suck the hot oil from the drum (through a 3/4" welded bushing), pump it through a 3 stage filter, and into the veggie fuel tank (through another 3/4" welded bushing).

See Homemade veggie oil conversion system for more info.
