Solar Powered Steam Generators

Our good Friend Robert Saunders has done it again. A few years back he published a document on slotted turbines that generated a lot of interest:

Now he’s come up with another gem, electricity from solar produced steam.

And now on 2/25/09, another chapter to the continuing saga:

It’s a good read, and we recommend it.

Dan Fink And Dan Bartmann: Homebrew Wind Power Book Review

Check out the review that Larry Barr, my old Energy Self Sufficiency Newsletter partner has written about their new DIY Axial Flux Wind Turbine book, Homebrew Wind Power. While you are there, check out our old back issues of ESSN as well. Lot’s of good Renewable Energy and Electricity info.

We have magnets and rectifiers for building these turbines at http://www.green-trust.org/products/ and discuss the alternators used in the turbines at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/axialflux/.

Upgrades and improvements in water quality and power availability

The old generator finally fried last night. The alternator head has milivolt output, so I changed the regulator card, but no improvement. Santa brought over a new Honda EU6500 today, and man is it a dream. Quiet, and fuel frugal. We are well into winter here, and the solar panels are averaging between 1.5 and 2 kWh per day, so the gen has to make up the difference. Am rebuilding the old Honda powered (3700 hours) Husqvarna unit for emergency backup.

Our Berkey Light water filter arrived today, and I’ve already ran 6 gallons of water though it. No more buying bottled water. I’m sending water samples of our well water, before and after filtration, to get an official “difference”. I can taste and see an apparent difference already.
